1. to clean; to clean up (remove dirt, tidy)

   把房间彻底扫除一下吧。 bǎ fángjiān chèdǐ sǎochú yīxià ba — Give the room a thorough cleaning.

2. to eliminate; to wipe out (remove completely, often abstract)

   政府采取措施扫除腐败现象。 zhèngfǔ cǎiqǔcuòshī sǎochú fǔbàixiànxiàng — The government has taken measures to eliminate corruption.
