扫 — sǎo

1. to sweep (with a broom or brush)

   她每天都要扫地。 tā měitiān dōu yào sǎodì — She sweeps the floor every day.

2. to sweep away; to wipe out; to get rid of

   那次地震把这个小镇的大部分建筑都扫掉了。 nàcì dìzhèn bǎ zhège xiǎozhèn de dàbùfèn jiànzhù dōu sǎo diào le — That earthquake swept away most of the town's buildings.

3. to scan or sweep (one's eyes) over; to glance across

   他把目光一扫就看到了角落里的包。 tā bǎ mùguāng yī sǎo jiù kàndào le jiǎoluòlǐ de bāo — He scanned and immediately saw the bag in the corner.
