执着 — zhízhuó

1. to be strongly attached to; to cling to (emotionally or mentally)

   他对过去的失败一直执着，难以放下。 tā duì guòqù de shībài yìzhí zhízhuó nányǐ fàngxià — He has been clinging to past failures and finds it hard to let go.

2. persistent; single-mindedly dedicated (positive sense of perseverance)

   她工作非常执着，最终获得了晋升。 tā gōngzuò fēicháng zhízhuó zuìzhōng huòdé le jìnshēng — She was very dedicated to her work and eventually got promoted.

3. attachment (Buddhist concept of clinging to things or desires)

   在佛教中，执着被认为是痛苦的根源之一。 zài fójiào zhōng zhízhuó bèi rènwéi shì tòngkǔ de gēnyuán zhīyī — In Buddhism, attachment is regarded as one of the roots of suffering.
