托 — tuō

1. to hold up in one's hand; to support with one's palm

   他用手托起了杯子，递给了我。 tāyòng shǒu tuōqǐ le bēizi dìgěi le wǒ — He lifted the cup with his hand and handed it to me.

2. something serving as a support; a prop, a rest (e.g., arm rest)

   飞机座椅的托可以调节高度。 fēijī zuòyǐ de tuō kěyǐ tiáojié gāodù — The seat's armrest can be adjusted in height.

3. (bound form) a shill; someone planted to praise or promote

   这家商店请了托在评论区刷好评。 zhèjiā shāngdiàn qǐng le tuō zài pínglùn qū shuā hǎopíng — This shop hired shills to post positive reviews in the comments.

4. to ask; to beg (request someone to do something or to ask for a favor)

   我托他帮我照看一下猫。 wǒ tuō tā bāng wǒ zhàokàn yīxià māo — I asked him to look after my cat.

5. to entrust (variant of 託|托[tuo1]); to consign something to another's care

   他把重要文件托给了律师保管。 tā bǎ zhòngyàowénjiàn tuō gěi le lǜshī bǎoguǎn — He entrusted the important documents to the lawyer for safekeeping.

6. torr (unit of pressure)

   实验中记录的真空度为10托。 shíyàn zhōng jìlù de zhēnkōngdù wèi 1 0 tuō — The vacuum level recorded in the experiment was 10 torr.
