1. to interrupt (someone speaking); to butt in

   请不要在别人讲话的时候打岔。 qǐng búyào zài biérén jiǎnghuà de shíhòu dǎchà — Please don't interrupt when others are speaking.

2. an interruption; a remark that changes the subject

   他的那句打岔让讨论偏离了主题。 tā de nà jù dǎchà ràng tǎolùn piānlí le zhǔtí — His interruption made the discussion stray from the topic.
