1. to comfort; to console

   他去医院慰劳生病的同事，带去了水果和慰问卡。 tā qù yīyuàn wèiláo shēngbìng de tóngshì dàiqù le shuǐguǒ hé wèiwèn kǎ — He went to the hospital to comfort his sick colleague, bringing fruit and a get-well card.

2. to show appreciation (by kind words, small gifts, visits etc); to express thanks/recognition

   公司慰劳了加班的员工，发了购物卡和感谢信。 gōngsī wèiláo le jiābān de yuángōng fā le gòuwù kǎ hé gǎnxièxìn — The company showed appreciation to employees who worked overtime, sending shopping cards and thank-you letters.
