急 — jí

1. urgent; pressing

   这件事很急，我们得马上处理。 zhèjiàn shì hěnjí wǒmen dé mǎshàng chǔlǐ — This matter is urgent; we must deal with it immediately.

2. rapid; quick (speed)

   这条小溪水流很急。 zhètiáo xiǎoxī shuǐliú hěnjí — The water in this small stream flows very rapidly.

3. hurried; hasty (acting without sufficient thought)

   别做出急的决定，先想清楚再说。 bié zuòchū jí de juédìng xiān xiǎng qīngchǔ zàishuō — Don't make a hasty decision; think it through first.

4. worried; anxious

   孩子没回家，妈妈很急。 háizi méi huíjiā māmā hěnjí — The child hasn't come home; the mother is very worried.

5. to make (someone) anxious; to worry

   他的迟到让老师很急。 tā de chídào ràng lǎoshī hěnjí — His lateness made the teacher anxious.
