1. aspiration; ambition; something one hopes to achieve (personal goal)

   我的志愿是成为一名医生。 wǒ de zhìyuàn shì chéngwéi yīmíng yīshēng — My aspiration is to become a doctor.

2. to volunteer (to do something); to offer oneself for a task or service

   他志愿参加救援工作。 tā zhìyuàn cānjiā jiùyuán gōngzuò — He volunteered to take part in the rescue work.
