弱 — ruò

1. weak; feeble (lacking strength, power or effectiveness)

   他病了几天，现在很虚弱，手都拿不稳杯子。 tā bìng le jǐtiān xiànzài hěn xūruò shǒu dōu ná bùwěn bēizi — He was ill for a few days and is very weak now; he can't hold a cup steadily.

2. young; immature (of age or development)

   这些树还很弱，长不了多高。 zhèxiē shù hái hěnruò zhǎng bùliǎo duō gāo — These trees are still young and won't grow very tall.

3. inferior; not as good as (weaker in comparison)

   他的中文水平比老师的要弱，语法错误比较多。 tā de zhōngwén shuǐpíng bǐ lǎoshī de yào ruò yǔfǎcuòwù bǐjiào duō — His Chinese level is weaker than the teacher's; he makes more grammar mistakes.

4. slightly less than (used after a decimal or fraction to indicate just under a value)

   到场的人数有五十弱，差几个就满了。 dàochǎng de rénshù yǒu wǔshí ruò chà jǐgè jiù mǎn le — Just under fifty people showed up; a few short of full capacity.
