引 — yǐn

1. to draw (e.g. a bow); to pull; to haul

   他把弓紧紧地引满，准备射箭。 tā bǎ gōng jǐnjǐn dì yǐn mǎn zhǔnbèi shèjiàn — He drew the bow tightly, ready to shoot.

2. to stretch; to extend; to lengthen (something)

   新的政策把任期引长了两年。 xīn de zhèngcè bǎ rènqī yǐn zhǎng le liǎngnián — The new policy extended the term of office by two years.

3. to involve or implicate (someone) in (a matter)

   警方怀疑有人试图把他引入那桩犯罪案中。 jǐngfāng huáiyí yǒurén shìtú bǎ tā yǐnrù nà zhuāng fànzuìàn zhōng — Police suspect someone tried to involve him in that crime.

4. to attract; to draw (attention, interest); to lead or guide (people)

   这场展览成功地引来了很多游客。 zhèchǎng zhǎnlǎn chénggōng dì yǐnlái le hěnduō yóukè — The exhibition successfully attracted many visitors.

5. to lead; to guide (a person somewhere)

   请你引他到会议室来。 qǐng nǐ yǐn tā dào huìyìshì lái — Please lead him to the meeting room.

6. to provide evidence or justification for; to cite as reason

   他在论文里引了几位专家的话。 tā zài lùnwén lǐ yǐn le jǐwèi zhuānjiā dehuà — He cited the words of several experts in his paper.

7. old Chinese unit of distance equal to 10 zhang (≈ 33.33 meters)

   古书上记载，那段城墙长约三引。 gǔshū shàng jìzǎi nàduàn chéngqiáng zhǎng yuē sān yǐn — The ancient book records that section of city wall was about three yin (≈100 m) long.
