弃权 — qìquán

1. to waive a right

   他在合同上签字以弃权某些权利。 tā zài hétóng shàng qiānzì yǐ qìquán mǒuxiē quánlì — He signed the contract to waive certain rights.

2. to abstain (from voting)

   在关键投票中，他选择弃权。 zài guānjiàn tóupiào zhōng tā xuǎnzé qìquán — He chose to abstain in the crucial vote.

3. (sports) to forfeit (a game)

   由于球员受伤，球队被迫弃权那场比赛。 yóuyú qiúyuán shòushāng qiúduì bèipò qìquán nàchǎng bǐsài — Because of player injuries, the team had to forfeit the match.

4. to voluntarily withdraw from a match

   她在半决赛前因伤决定弃权。 tā zài bànjuésài qiányīn shāng juédìng qìquán — She decided to withdraw from the semifinal because of an injury.
