开放 — kāifàng

1. to bloom; to come into flower

   春天到了，花都开始开放。 chūntiān dào le huādōu kāishǐ kāifàng — Spring has arrived, and the flowers are beginning to bloom.

2. to open (something); to open up

   政府决定开放这条新道路给市民通行。 zhèngfǔ juédìng kāifàng zhètiáo xīn dàolù gěi shìmín tōngxíng — The government decided to open up this new road for public use.

3. to be open (to the public); accessible

   博物馆每天九点到五点向公众开放。 bówùguǎn měitiān jiǔdiǎn dào wǔdiǎn xiàng gōngzhòng kāifàng — The museum is open to the public every day from 9 to 5.

4. to open up (to the outside); to liberalize (policies, economy)

   那家公司决定向国际市场开放产品。 nàjiā gōngsī juédìng xiàng guójì shìchǎng kāifàng chǎnpǐn — The company decided to open its products to the international market.

5. to be open-minded; receptive to new ideas

   她对不同文化很开放，愿意学习新事物。 tā duì bùtóng wénhuà hěn kāifàng yuànyì xuéxí xīn shìwù — She is very open to different cultures and willing to learn new things.

6. unrestrained by convention; unconventional

   他的穿着风格很开放，不拘泥于传统。 tā de chuānzhe fēnggé hěn kāifàng bùjūní yú chuántǒng — His dressing style is very uninhibited and not bound by tradition.

7. unconstrained in one's sexuality; sexually liberal

   他对感情比较开放，不在意旁人议论。 tā duì gǎnqíng bǐjiào kāifàng bùzàiyì pángrén yìlùn — He is fairly liberal about relationships and doesn't mind what others say.
