开启 — kāiqǐ

1. to start; to begin; to initiate (an era, process, journey etc)

   这次改革将开启一个新的发展阶段。 zhècì gǎigé jiāng kāiqǐ yígè xīn de fāzhǎn jiēduàn — This reform will initiate a new stage of development.

2. (computing) to enable (a feature); to turn on (a function)

   在设置里开启通知就能收到更新提醒。 zài shèzhì lǐ kāiqǐ tōngzhī jiù néng shōudào gēngxīn tíxǐng — Enable notifications in settings to receive update alerts.

3. (of a system or device) to start operating automatically; to self-initiate

   这台机器在检测到温度异常时会自动开启。 zhè tái jīqì zài jiǎncè dào wēndù yìcháng shíhuì zìdòng kāiqǐ — This machine will automatically start when it detects an abnormal temperature.

4. to open (something that has been sealed)

   请帮我把这封信开启，看看里面写了什么。 qǐng bāng wǒ bǎ zhè fēngxìn kāiqǐ kànkàn lǐmiàn xiě le shénme — Please help me open this letter to see what is written inside.
