2. to open and close; to switch on and off

   你能把空调开关一下吗？ nǐ néng bǎ kōngtiáo kāiguān yīxià ma — Can you switch the air conditioner on/off?

3. to open the city (or frontier) gate (archaic)

   天亮后，守城士兵奉命开关迎接商队。 tiānliàng hòu shǒuchéng shìbīng fèngmìng kāiguān yíngjiē shāngduì — At daybreak, the soldiers guarding the city were ordered to open the gates to welcome the caravan.
