废 — fèi

1. to abolish; to abrogate

   政府决定废除这项法规。 zhèngfǔ juédìng fèichú zhèxiàng fǎguī — The government decided to abolish this regulation.

2. to abandon; to discard; to scrap

   这个项目浪费太多资源，我们应该废掉它。 zhège xiàngmù làngfèi tàiduō zīyuán wǒmen yīnggāi fèidiào tā — This project wastes too many resources; we should scrap it.

3. to depose; to oust (from office)

   议会有权废黜国王。 yìhuì yǒuquán fèichù guówáng — The parliament has the power to depose the king.

4. crippled; disabled; not functioning

   那台旧机器已经废了，修不了。 nà tái jiù jīqì yǐjīng fèi le xiū bùliǎo — That old machine is broken (out of use); it can't be repaired.

5. abandoned (place); deserted; waste

   那座废厂已经多年无人管理。 nà zuò fèi chǎng yǐjīng duōnián wúrén guǎnlǐ — That abandoned factory has had no one maintaining it for years.
