   这个旧箱子的底已经很脏了。 zhège jiù xiāngzi de dǐ yǐjīng hěnzāng le — The bottom of this old box is already very dirty.

2. foundation; background (figurative)

   他有很好的学术底子。 tā yǒu hěn hǎo de xuéshù dǐzi — He has a very solid academic background.

3. a copy kept as a record (of a manuscript, receipt, etc.)

   公司把收据的底存档。 gōngsī bǎ shōujù de dǐ cúndàng — The company archived the copy of the receipt.

4. (suffix) end of a year or month

   月底我们放假两天。 yuèdǐ wǒmen fàngjià liǎngtiān — At the end of the month we have two days off.

5. (mathematics) radix; base (e.g., base of a numeral system); abbreviation for 底数

   十进制的底是十。 shíjìnzhì de dǐ shì shí — The base of the decimal system is ten.
