1. to put to use; to apply (a method, idea, knowledge)

   我们可以把学到的知识应用到生活中。 wǒmen kěyǐ bǎ xuédào de zhīshí yìngyòng dào shēnghuó zhōng — We can apply the knowledge we have learned to daily life.

2. practical; applied (as in applied science)

   他专攻应用物理学，而不是纯理论物理。 tā zhuāngōng yìngyòng wùlǐxué ér búshì chún lǐlùnwùlǐ — He specializes in applied physics, not pure theoretical physics.

3. application; practical use

   这项技术的应用非常广泛。 zhèxiàng jìshù de yìngyòng fēicháng guǎngfàn — The application of this technology is very wide.

4. (computing) app; software application

   我刚下载了一个新的音乐应用，很好用。 wǒ gāng xiàzài le yígè xīn de yīnyuè yìngyòng hěn hǎo yòng — I just downloaded a new music app; it's very useful.
