帅 — shuài

1. commander-in-chief (bound form)

   他是这支军队的主帅。 tā shì zhè zhī jūnduì de zhǔshuài — He is the commander-in-chief of this army.

2. to lead; to command (bound form)

   他被任命为帅，负责联合作战。 tā bèi rènmìng wèi shuài fùzé liánhézuòzhàn — He was appointed as commander to lead the joint operation.

3. handsome; graceful; dashing; elegant

   他长得很帅，大家都夸他。 tā zhǎng dé hěn shuài dàjiā dōu kuā tā — He is very handsome; everyone praises him.

4. colloquial exclamation meaning 'cool!' or 'sweet!'

   你会骑自行车了？帅！ nǐ huì qí zìxíngchē le shuài — You can ride a bike now? Cool!

5. the general (red side) in Chinese chess (Xiangqi)

   帅不能离开九宫格，否则就被将军了。 shuài bùnéng líkāi jiǔgōnggé fǒuzé jiù bèi jiāngjūn le — The shuai (general piece) cannot leave the palace grid, or it will be in check.

6. surname Shuai

   帅先生是我的中文老师。 shuài xiānshēng shì wǒ de zhōngwén lǎoshī — Mr. Shuai is my Chinese teacher.
