工夫 — gōngfu

1. period of time (may be long or short)

   做这件事要花不少工夫。 zuò zhèjiàn shì yào huā bùshǎo gōngfu — Doing this will take quite a bit of time.

2. spare time; free time

   你有工夫帮我一下吗？ nǐ yǒu gōngfu bāng wǒ yīxià ma — Do you have some spare time to help me?

3. skill; ability; technique (as in kung fu)

   他下棋的工夫很高。 tā xiàqí de gōngfu hěn gāo — His skill at chess is very high.

4. labor; effort; work (time/energy spent on a task)

   这个项目需要很多工夫才能完成。 zhège xiàngmù xūyào hěnduō gōngfu cáinéng wánchéng — This project needs a lot of effort to complete.

工夫 — gōngfū

1. (old) laborer

   在古代，工夫常指体力劳动者。 zài gǔdài gōngfu chángzhǐ tǐlì láodòngzhě — In ancient times, gongfu often referred to manual laborers.
