届 — jiè

1. to arrive at (a time); when the time comes

   到了开会的时间，届时我们就开始。 dào le kāihuì de shíjiān jièshí wǒmen jiù kāishǐ — When the meeting time arrives, we will start.

2. term; session; period (in a sequence of events or cohorts)

   这一届毕业生有三百人。 zhè yījiè bìyèshēng yǒu sānbǎi rén — This graduating class has 300 students.

3. to become due; to come up (for payment, expiration)

   合同将在年底届满，需要提前办理续约。 hétóng jiāng zài niándǐ jièmǎn xūyào tíqián bànlǐ xùyuē — The contract will come due at the end of the year; renewal must be arranged in advance.

4. classifier for events, meetings, elections, sporting fixtures, years (of graduation) — e.g. 第三届 = the third (session)

   第三届国际音乐节将在下个月举行。 dìsānjiè guójì yīnyuèjié jiāng zài xiàgèyuè jǔxíng — The 3rd International Music Festival will be held next month.
