对照 — duìzhào

1. to contrast; to compare

   我们把两份合同对照了一下，发现有几处不同。 wǒmen bǎ liǎngfèn hétóng duìzhào le yīxià fāxiàn yǒu jǐchù bùtóng — We compared the two contracts and found a few differences.

2. to place side by side for comparison (as parallel texts)

   对照原文和译文可以更好地检查翻译是否准确。 duìzhào yuánwén hé yìwén kěyǐ gènghǎo dì jiǎnchá fānyì shìfǒu zhǔnquè — Placing the original and the translation side by side helps check whether the translation is accurate.

3. to check; to verify (by comparing with something)

   出库前要把清单和实物对照核对数量。 chūkù qián yào bǎ qīngdān hé shíwù duìzhào héduì shùliàng — Before shipping, compare the list with the physical items to verify quantities.
