寄托 — jìtuō

1. to entrust (something) to someone; to give someone responsibility for something

   我把这件事寄托给他了。 wǒ bǎ zhèjiàn shì jìtuō gěi tā le — I entrusted this matter to him.

2. to place (one's hope, feelings, energy etc) in (someone or something)

   她把所有的希望都寄托在孩子身上。 tā bǎ suǒyǒu de xīwàng dōu jìtuō zài háizi shēnshàng — She places all her hopes on her child.

3. that which one invests one's hope/feelings/expectations in; an object of expectation

   新计划成了公司未来发展的寄托。 xīn jìhuà chéng le gōngsī wèilái fāzhǎn de jìtuō — The new plan became the company's hope for future development.
