实在 — shízài

1. really; actually; indeed

   我实在不知道该怎么办。 wǒ shízài bùzhī dào gāi zěnmebàn — I really don't know what to do.

2. true; real; genuine

   这不是传闻，是实在的事。 zhè búshì chuánwén shì shízài de shì — This is not a rumor; it's a real matter.

3. honest; sincere; dependable (personality)

   他为人很实在，大家都信任他。 tā wéi rén hěn shízài dàjiā dōu xìnrèn tā — He is very down-to-earth/honest; everyone trusts him.

4. (philosophy) reality; the real

   在哲学中，实在是指独立于意识的存在。 zài zhéxué zhōng shízài shì zhǐ dúlì yú yìshí de cúnzài — In philosophy, 'reality' refers to existence independent of consciousness.
