宝贝 — bǎobèi

1. treasured object; treasure

   这本旧书是我的宝贝。 zhèběn jiùshū shì wǒ de bǎobèi — This old book is my treasure.

2. darling; baby (affectionate form of address)

   宝贝，你今天想吃什么？ bǎobèi nǐ jīntiān xiǎng chī shénme — Honey, what do you want to eat today?

3. cowry (shell used historically as currency)

   考古学家在遗址里发现了许多古代的宝贝。 kǎogǔxuéjiā zài yízhǐ lǐ fāxiàn le xǔduō gǔdài de bǎobèi — Archaeologists found many ancient cowries at the site.

4. good-for-nothing; queer character (derogatory, colloquial)

   别理他，他就是个没用的宝贝。 biélǐ tā tā jiùshì gè méiyòng de bǎobèi — Don't pay attention to him; he's just a useless fellow.
