1. outside; the exterior or outdoors

   我们在外等你。 wǒmen zàiwài děng nǐ — We'll wait for you outside.

2. in addition; besides

   除此之外，他还有很多事要做。 chúcǐzhīwài tā háiyǒu hěnduō shì yào zuò — Besides this, he still has many things to do.

3. foreign; from another country

   外文书籍很难找到。 wàiwén shūjí hěn nán zhǎodào — Foreign-language books are hard to find.

4. external; outside (of something internal)

   外部检修需要停机。 wàibù jiǎnxiū xūyào tíngjī — External maintenance requires a shutdown.
