1. to reside; to live; to dwell

   他在北京处了很多年，对这座城市很熟悉。 tā zài běijīng chù le hěnduōnián duì zhè zuò chéngshì hěn shúxī — He has lived in Beijing for many years and knows the city well.

2. to be located; to be situated at; to be in (a state or position)

   问题的关键处在沟通不够。 wèntí de guānjiànchù zài gōutōng bùgòu — The crux of the problem lies in insufficient communication.

3. to get along with; to interact with

   我和邻居处得很好。 wǒ hé línjū chǔdé hěn hǎo — I get along very well with my neighbor.

4. to deal with; to discipline; to punish

   公司会严肃处置违规行为。 gōngsī huì yánsù chǔzhì wéiguīxíngwéi — The company will severely deal with violations.

处 — chù

1. (bound form) place; locality; location; spot

   这一处风景很美。 zhè yīchù fēngjǐng hěnměi — This place (spot) has beautiful scenery.

2. (bound form) part; aspect; facet

   他的解释还有几处不清楚。 tā de jiěshì háiyǒu jǐchù bù qīngchǔ — There are still a few parts of his explanation that are unclear.

3. (bound form) office; department; bureau

   这件事请你去人事处办理。 zhèjiàn shì qǐng nǐ qù rénshìchù bànlǐ — Please go to the personnel office to handle this matter.

4. classifier for locations: spot, point (as in 'one place/one spot')

   找到一处合适的房子很不容易。 zhǎodào yīchù héshì de fángzi hěn bùróng yì — It's not easy to find a suitable house (one spot).
