1. sound; noise; a detectable auditory event

   屋里没有一点声。 wūlǐ méiyǒu yìdiǎn shēng — There wasn't a sound in the room.

2. voice (human); the sound produced by speech or singing

   他的声很低，听不清楚。 tā de shēng hěn dī tīngbùqīng chǔ — His voice was very low and hard to hear.

3. tone (of voice); mood or manner expressed by sound

   他说话的声很严肃。 tā shuōhuà de shēng hěn yánsù — The tone of his speech was very serious.

4. noise; an unpleasant or unwanted sound
