地步 — dìbù

1. stage; phase (of development or deterioration)

   公司的问题已经到了一个很危险的地步。 gōngsī de wèntí yǐjīng dào le yígè hěn wēixiǎn de dìbù — The company's problems have already reached a very dangerous stage.

2. degree; extent (to which a situation has evolved)

   矛盾发展到这种地步，已经很难调和了。 máodùn fāzhǎn dào zhèzhòng dìbù yǐjīng hěn nán tiáohé le — With contradictions developing to this degree, it's already hard to reconcile them.

3. a (usually bad) situation; predicament

   别把事情闹到那种地步。 bié bǎ shìqíng nào dào nàzhòng dìbù — Don't let things get to that sort of state.

4. leeway; room (to maneuver)

   事情发展到这种地步，已经没有挽回的余地。 shìqíng fāzhǎn dào zhèzhòng dìbù yǐjīng méiyǒu wǎnhuí de yúdì — Things have reached such a point that there's no room left to salvage them.
