圣贤 — shèngxián

1. a sage; a wise and holy person

   古代人常把孔子当作圣贤来崇敬。 gǔdàirén cháng bǎ kǒngzi dàngzuò shèngxián lái chóngjìng — In ancient times people often revered Confucius as a sage.

2. a virtuous ruler; an exemplary moral leader

   百姓期待英明的君主成为国家的圣贤。 bǎixìng qīdài yīngmíng de jūnzhǔ chéngwéi guójiā de shèngxián — The people hoped a wise monarch would become the nation's virtuous ruler.

3. a Buddhist lama (honorific)

   寺庙里供奉着几位著名的圣贤像。 sìmiào lǐ gòngfèng zhe jǐwèi zhùmíng de shèngxián xiàng — The temple houses statues of several famous lamas.

4. wine (archaic/rare usage)

   他斟了一杯圣贤，慢慢品味。 tā zhēn le yībēi shèngxián mànmàn pǐnwèi — He poured a cup of wine and savored it slowly.
