圈 — juān

1. to confine; to lock up; to pen in

   他们把犯人圈在了监舍里。 tāmen bǎ fànrén quān zài le jiānshě lǐ — They locked the prisoners up in the cell.

圈 — juàn

1. livestock enclosure; pen; fold; sty

   早上农夫去圈里喂猪。 zǎoshàng nóngfū qù quānlǐ wèizhū — In the morning the farmer went to the pen to feed the pigs.

圈 — quān

1. circle; ring; loop; (CL:個|个[ge4]); also used as a classifier for loops, orbits, laps

   他画了一个圈在地图上标出目的地。 tā huà le yígèquān zài dìtú shàng biāochū mùdìdì — He drew a circle on the map to mark the destination.

2. to surround; to encircle; to go around

   警察把嫌疑人团团圈住了。 jǐngchá bǎ xiányírén tuántuán quānzhù le — The police surrounded the suspect.

3. classifier for loops, orbits, laps, circuits (used after a number)

   他一口气跑了三圈，累得气喘吁吁。 tā yìkǒuqì pǎo le sānquān lèidé qìchuǎnxūxū — He ran three laps in one go and was completely out of breath.
