回避 — huíbì

1. to avoid (a person); to shun

   他总是回避同事的问题，不愿意直接交流。 tā zǒng shì huí bì tóng shì de wèn tí ， bù yuàn yì zhí jiē jiāo liú 。 — He always avoids questions from colleagues and is unwilling to communicate directly.

2. to evade or skirt (an issue); to withdraw; to recuse (e.g. a judge)

   面对敏感问题，官员选择回避，导致公众更不满意。 miàn duì mǐn gǎn wèn tí ， guān yuán xuǎn zé huí bì ， dǎo zhì gōng zhòng gèng bù mǎn yì 。 — Faced with the sensitive issue, the official chose to evade it, causing greater public dissatisfaction.
