啦 — lā

1. onomatopoeic sound (e.g. singing, cheering); phonetic syllable

   台上的演员唱着啦啦啦，观众也跟着鼓掌。 táishàng de yǎnyuán chàng zhe la la la guānzhòng yě gēnzhe gǔzhǎng — The performers on stage sang la la la, and the audience applauded along.

2. (dialect) to chat; to shoot the breeze

   他们在茶馆里啦了好几个小时。 tāmen zài cháguǎn lǐ la le hǎojǐgè xiǎoshí — They chatted for hours in the teahouse.
