1. to reconcile; to settle (a dispute, often out of court); to become reconciled

   他们经过调解终于和解了。 tāmen jīngguò tiáojiě zhōngyú héjiě le — After mediation they finally reconciled.

2. settlement; conciliation (an agreement resolving a dispute)

   双方达成了和解，案件结案。 shuāngfāng dáchéng le héjiě ànjiàn jiéàn — The two sides reached a settlement and the case was closed.
