吹 — chuī

1. to blow (air); to emit air by exhalation

   风在窗外吹。 fēng zài chuāngwài chuī — The wind is blowing outside the window.

2. to play (a wind instrument)

   他会吹萨克斯。 tā huì chuī sàkèsī — He can play the saxophone.

3. to blast; to puff; to blow on something forcefully

   他对着蜡烛吹灭了火焰。 tā duìzhe làzhú chuīmiè le huǒyàn — He blew out the candle's flame.

4. to boast; to brag

   别总是吹自己的成绩。 bié zǒngshì chuī zìjǐ de chéngjì — Don't always brag about your grades.

5. to end in failure; to fall through (a plan)

   他的计划因为资金问题吹了。 tā de jìhuà yīnwèi zījīn wèntí chuī le — His plan fell through because of funding problems.
