听说 — tīngshuō

1. to hear (something said); to be told; 'one hears that...'

   听说他下个月要来北京。 tīngshuō tā xiàgèyuè yàolái běijīng — I heard he's coming to Beijing next month.

2. hearsay; rumor

   这只是听说，别当真。 zhè zhǐshì tīngshuō biédàngzhēn — That's just hearsay, don't take it seriously.

3. the act of listening and speaking; oral communication

   这个课程主要训练听说能力。 zhège kèchéng zhǔyào xùnliàn tīngshuō nénglì — This course mainly trains listening and speaking skills.
