吐 — tǔ

1. to spit (saliva)

   他不小心在地上吐了一口痰。 tā bùxiǎo xīn zài dìshàng tǔ le yīkǒu tán — He accidentally spat a mouthful of phlegm on the ground.

2. to send out (e.g., silk from a silkworm; cotton bolls)

   蚕吐丝来结茧。 cán tǔsī lái jié jiǎn — The silkworm spins out silk to make a cocoon.

3. to say; to utter

   他在会上吐露了自己的看法。 tā zài huìshàng tǔlù le zìjǐ de kànfǎ — He spoke out his views at the meeting.

4. to pour out (one's grievances); to vent

   她给朋友倾吐了心中的苦衷。 tā gěi péngyǒu qīngtǔ le xīnzhōng de kǔzhōng — She poured out her troubles to a friend.

吐 — tù

1. to vomit; to throw up

   吃坏东西后他开始不停地吐。 chī huàidōngxi hòu tā kāishǐ bùtíng dì tǔ — After eating something bad, he started vomiting continuously.
