吊 — diào

1. to suspend; to hang up (something)

   把衣服吊在阳台上晾干。 bǎ yīfú diào zài yángtái shàng liànggān — Hang the clothes on the balcony to dry.

2. to hang (a person) — execute by hanging

   古代某些罪行会被判吊刑。 gǔdài mǒuxiē zuì xínghuì bèipàn diào xíng — In ancient times some crimes were punished by hanging.
