   他说话时张开了口。 tā shuōhuà shí zhāngkāi le kǒu — He opened his mouth when he spoke.

2. classifier for people, domestic animals, cannons, wells, etc. (literally 'mouth')

   他家有五口人。 tājiā yǒu wǔkǒu rén — There are five people in his family.

3. classifier for a bite or a mouthful (one mouthful, one bite)

   他喝了一口汤。 tā hē le yīkǒu tāng — He took a mouthful of soup.
