2. to send a telegram (old-fashioned)

   那时候大家常常到邮局发电通知亲人平安。 nà shíhòu dàjiā chángcháng dào yóujú fādiàn tōngzhī qīnrén píngān — At that time people often went to the post office to send telegrams to inform relatives they were safe.
