发火 — fāhuǒ

1. to catch fire; to ignite

   因为电线短路，房子突然发火了。 yīnwèi diànxiàn duǎnlù fángzi tūrán fāhuǒ le — Because of a short circuit, the house suddenly caught fire.

2. to detonate; to set off (an explosive)

   导火索点燃后，炸药很快就发火了。 dǎohuǒsuǒ diǎnrán hòu zhàyào hěnkuài jiù fāhuǒ le — After the fuse was lit, the explosives quickly detonated.

3. to get angry; to lose one's temper

   别跟他开玩笑，他一被逗就发火。 bié gēn tā kāiwánxiào tā yī bèi dòu jiù fāhuǒ — Don't joke with him; he loses his temper as soon as he's teased.
