1. reverse side; back; the side opposite the front

   纸的反面写着备注。 zhǐ de fǎnmiàn xiě zhe bèizhù — Notes are written on the back of the paper.

2. the other side of a matter; the opposite or counterpart (often abstract)

   成功有光鲜的一面，但也有反面——付出的代价。 chénggōng yǒu guāngxiān de yímiàn dàn yě yǒu fǎnmiàn fùchū de dàijià — Success has a glamorous side, but it also has a flip side—the price paid.

3. negative; unfavorable; bad (used to describe effects, qualities, or aspects)

   长期熬夜对健康的反面影响不容忽视。 chángqī áoyè duì jiànkāng de fǎnmiàn yǐngxiǎng bùrónghūshì — The negative effects of long-term staying up late on health cannot be ignored.
