去 — qù

1. to go; to go to (a place)

   我明天要去北京。 wǒ míngtiān yào qù běijīng — I'm going to Beijing tomorrow.

2. (of a time etc.) last; just passed

   去年的成绩比今年好。 qùnián de chéngjì bǐ jīnnián hǎo — Last year's results were better than this year's.

3. to send; to remove; to get rid of; to reduce

   请把包装去掉，再把里面的东西拿出来。 qǐng bǎ bāozhuāng qùdiào zài bǎ lǐmiàn de dōngxī ná chūlái — Please remove the packaging, then take out the contents.

4. to be apart from in space or time; to leave

   他离去后再也没有回来。 tā líqù hòu zàiyě méiyǒu huílái — After he left he never came back.

5. to die (euphemism)

   他去年去世了。 tā qùnián qùshì le — He passed away last year.

6. grammatical uses: (1) used before or after a verb to indicate 'to go in order to do something'; (2) after a verb of motion to indicate movement away from the speaker; (3) used after certain verbs to indicate detachment or separation

   他去吃饭了。 tā qù chīfàn le — He went (away) to eat.
