1. to be promoted; to move up a grade or rank

   完成考核后他成功升级到高级工程师。 wánchéng kǎohé hòu tā chénggōng shēngjí dào gāojí gōngchéngshī — After passing the assessment, he was successfully promoted to senior engineer.

2. to escalate (in intensity, conflict, etc.)

   两国之间的紧张关系正在升级。 liǎngguózhījiān de jǐnzhāng guānxì zhèngzài shēngjí — Tensions between the two countries are escalating.

3. (computing) to upgrade (software, hardware)
