勉强 — miǎnqiǎng

1. to do something with difficulty; to barely manage

   他勉强完成了工作。 tā miǎnqiǎng wánchéng le gōngzuò — He barely managed to finish the job.

2. to force someone (to do something) unwillingly

   他被父母勉强去相亲。 tā bèi fùmǔ miǎnqiǎng qù xiāngqīn — He was forced by his parents to go on a blind date.

3. reluctant; unwilling

   我对这个提议感到有点勉强。 wǒ duì zhège tíyì gǎndào yǒudiǎn miǎnqiǎng — I feel a bit reluctant about this proposal.

4. barely; just enough (amount/degree)

   钱勉强够付房租。 qián miǎnqiǎng gòu fù fángzū — The money is barely enough to pay the rent.
