1. to make heavier; to increase (a burden, punishment, weight)

   法院决定对他的刑罚加重。 fǎyuàn juédìng duì tā de xíngfá jiāzhòng — The court decided to increase his sentence.

2. to emphasize; to stress (a point)

   老师在课堂上多次加重了这个概念的重要性。 lǎoshī zài kètáng shàng duōcì jiāzhòng le zhège gàiniàn de zhòngyàoxìng — The teacher repeatedly stressed the importance of this concept in class.

3. (of an illness, situation) to become more serious; to worsen; to aggravate (a bad situation)

   如果不及时治疗，病情可能会加重。 rúguǒ bùjí shí zhìliáo bìngqíng kěnéng huì jiāzhòng — If not treated in time, the condition may worsen.
