1. meritorious deed or service; meritorious contribution (often in compounds like 功劳)

   他的功被大家表扬了。 tā de gōng bèi dàjiā biǎoyáng le — His meritorious service was praised by everyone.

2. achievement; result; accomplishment (a completed task or successful outcome)

   经过几年的奋斗，他终于大功告成。 jīngguò jǐnián de fèndòu tā zhōngyú dàgōnggàochéng — After several years of hard work, he finally accomplished the great task.

3. work (physics) — the energy transferred by a force acting over a distance

   在物理里，功等于力乘以位移。 zài wùlǐ lǐ gōng děngyú lì chéngyǐ wèiyí — In physics, work equals force times displacement.
