1. to pare; to reduce; to remove (also pronounced xue4 in Taiwan)

   公司决定削减开支以度过难关。 gōngsī juédìng xuējiǎn kāizhī yǐ dùguònánguān — The company decided to cut (reduce) expenses to get through the difficulties.
