刷 — shuā

1. a brush (tool)

   他拿起刷子刷了刷鞋。 tā náqǐ shuāzi shuā le shuā xié — He picked up the brush and brushed his shoes.

2. to brush; to scrub; to clean by brushing

   我每天早上都刷牙。 wǒ měitiān zǎoshàng dōu shuāyá — I brush my teeth every morning.

3. to swipe (a card); to scan

   请把信用卡刷一下。 qǐng bǎ xìnyòngkǎ shuā yīxià — Please swipe your credit card.

4. to scroll on a phone / to flick through (digital content)

   他在手机上不停地刷社交媒体。 tā zàishǒu jīshàng bùtíng dì shuā shèjiāo méitǐ — He keeps scrolling social media on his phone.

5. to remove; to eliminate (e.g., from a contest); to fire (from a job)

   他因为失职被公司刷了。 tā yīnwèi shīzhí bèi gōngsī shuā le — He was fired by the company for negligence.

6. to grind / farm (in gaming) — to repeatedly play to gain experience or items

   今天晚上我们一组去刷副本。 jīntiān wǎnshàng wǒmen yīzǔ qù shuā fùběn — Tonight our team will grind instances (dungeons).
