刮 — guā

1. to scrape; to rub away the surface of something

   他用刀把苹果皮刮掉了。 tāyòng dāobà píngguǒpí guādiào le — He scraped off the apple skin with a knife.

2. to shave (face, head); to cut hair by shaving

   他每天早上都要刮胡子。 tā měitiān zǎoshàng dōu yào guāhúzi — He shaves every morning.

3. to plunder; to extort; to fleece (money from someone)

   那些中介公司在租房时常常刮房客的钱。 nàxiē zhōngjiè gōngsī zài zūfáng shí chángcháng guā fángkè de qián — Those agencies often fleece tenants when renting.

4. to blow (of wind); to gust

   外面刮着很大的风，别出门了。 wàimiàn guā zhe hěndà de fēng bié chūmén le — It's very windy outside; don't go out.
