1. to dig; to excavate

   工人们在路边刨沟放电缆。 gōngrén men zài lùbiān páo gōu fàng diànlǎn — Workers are digging a trench by the road to lay cables.

2. (colloquial) to exclude; not to count; to deduct

   税前收入刨掉社保后才是到手收入。 shuìqián shōurù páo diào shèbǎo hòu cái shì dàoshǒu shōurù — After deducting social insurance from pre-tax income, that is the take-home pay.
